Terms of Service

StatusSpy ("we," "us," "our") provides uptime monitoring, hosted status pages, hosted changelogs, a Google PageSpeed-powered Site Health auditor, incident management, AI-generated status summaries, alerting (email, Slack, Discord, webhook), a public "is it down" checker at /check, and a REST API for programmatic access - together, "the Service." By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

You need an account to create Sites, Monitors, or Components. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials and any API keys you generate confidential, and for everything that happens under your account - including actions taken by team members you invite. Tell us right away if you suspect unauthorized access.

If you invite team members to a Site, you're responsible for managing their access level (Viewer, Editor, or Admin) and for removing access when it's no longer needed.

You agree not to:

• Use a Monitor, the public /check tool, or the API to attack, overload, or disrupt a service you don't own or don't have permission to test - a Monitor is a periodic uptime check, not a load-testing tool.
• Submit false or abusive visitor reports, subscriber signups, or contact-form messages, or otherwise abuse the public-facing forms on someone else's status page.
• Share, sell, or publish an API key, or use one to access a Site you don't have rights to.
• Use the Service to distribute malware, run illegal content, or impersonate a person or organization you're not affiliated with on a status page you don't legitimately represent.
• Attempt to circumvent plan limits, rate limits, or abuse protections built into the Service.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section, with or without notice depending on severity.

Paid plans are billed through Stripe on a monthly or yearly subscription. You can change or cancel your subscription anytime from your account's billing portal; downgrades and cancellations take effect per Stripe's standard proration rules, and take you back to the Free plan at the end of the current billing period.

Lifetime deal ("LTD") codes purchased through a third-party marketplace (e.g. AppSumo, DealMirror, Dealify) are redeemed directly in your account. Refunds for an LTD purchase are handled by the marketplace you bought it from, under their own refund policy - we don't process that payment directly and can't refund it ourselves.

Downgrading (self-serve, by an admin, or automatically when an LTD or subscription expires) never deletes existing data. It only stops you from creating new Sites, Site Health pages, or other resources beyond your new plan's limits.

You retain ownership of the content you add to the Service - Site names, incident text, changelog entries, custom CSS, and anything else you enter. You're responsible for what you publish on your public status page and changelog, including anything drafted with the "Draft with AI" assistant - AI-suggested text is a starting point, not something we guarantee is accurate, and you're responsible for reviewing it before posting.

Anything you mark public (a status page, a changelog, a public Component) is, by definition, visible to anyone with the link - don't put anything there you don't want publicly readable.

The Service relies on third parties to do its job: Stripe (payments), Anthropic's Claude API (AI-generated summaries and incident drafts), Google's PageSpeed Insights API (Site Health checks), and an email delivery provider (account emails, alerts, subscriber notifications). Using a feature that depends on one of these means your relevant data passes through that provider - see our Privacy Policy for detail on what's sent where.

We aim for the Service itself to be reliable, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted uptime monitoring, alert delivery, or status page availability. A Monitor check failing (or succeeding) from our servers doesn't always mean your own users experienced the same thing - the Service is a tool to help you communicate about your own service's status, not a substitute for your own monitoring judgment.

You can delete a Site or your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, don't pay for a paid plan, or pose a security risk to the Service or other users. On termination, your public status pages and changelogs stop being served.

The Service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including damages from a missed alert, a status page being unavailable, or an inaccurate AI-generated summary. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

We may update these Terms as the Service changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do; continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the update.
